Postcard from Edinburgh

Updated: Sep 11, 2019

"Dolce far niente."

Hello, how are you? We’re having a great time in Edinburgh this weekend.

Edinburgh is old and beautiful, even if it’s quite rainy. It’s full of interesting history, breathtaking views and kind people. You would love it! We’ve visited so many places around the city in the last couple of days I have completely lost count. Saturday was so rainy (I felt like a drowned dog!)

Some of the best things I’ve seen would be:

The grave of Tom Riddle: The resting place of a man who lived in the 19th century can be found in the spooky Greyfriars Kirkyard. It’s possible the famous villain from Harry Potter was named after this person - the spot is only a few minutes walk away from where J.K. Rowling wrote the books.

Edinburgh’s Old Town: The medieval part of the city, full of cute little shops and cafés. Also found here is the best landmark in the city, and probably the whole of Scotland - the famous Edinburgh Castle, which has splendid views of the city.

National Museum of Scotland: A building dedicated to collections of technology, arts and Scottish culture through time. It’s one of the biggest museums in the UK, attracting over 2 million people per year.

The Royal Mile: Quite possibly the prettiest street I’ve ever seen. It’s full of traditional Scottish shops and restaurants, stretching all the way from the castle at the top to the palace at the bottom.

Saturday was so rainy that I felt like a drowned dog when we got back to the hotel, but lots of hot chocolate and fun company made it all better.

On Sunday the weather was much better (and much less foggy) so we were finally able to enjoy the views around the city, which I definitely won’t be forgetting any time soon.

The whole weekend was so much fun, even if the weather wasn’t so good on the first day and my legs are now dying from all the walking!

Thanks for Fraser who made me laugh, wanted to make the moments worthwhile and of course took these beautiful pictures.

Now back to Newcastle, see you soon!
