I'M MOVING TO THE UK

When I was 13 years old, I dreamed of being a wizard and attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Obviously, if I was a witch I already would’ve received my letter from Hogwarts since the letter will be received at the age of 11. Harry Potter made me interested in the British literature and culture and back then, I made myself a promise that one day I will be studying and living in the United Kingdom. I thought I would be studying in Oxford which I thought would be realistic, but as we have seen, it hasn’t happened. Nevertheless, I have finally fulfilled my dream and got a real offer from a British University to be an actual student – not just an exchange student!

When it comes to the work that I have done to get this far during the last six months, I can honestly say that I have never in my life been this proud of myself. I have dreamed about this for so long, and I decided years ago that I want this to myself. I made it happen and I couldn’t be happier at the moment! My skills in English have developed so much during these past few years that I have no doubt that I will be equal to all the other students in there. I’m sure I will face challenges, but I’m certain that I will overcome all of them.

I haven’t been writing my blog for a while due to the busy schedule of finishing my thesis and work in Finland. I graduated at the end of November and received my Bachelor Degree. My fixed-term work contract also ended at the end of October which means that I won’t be working for a while. During the past month, I have signed a contract in the UK for our new flat and moved to our new home, working out and just enjoying the free time.

Moving to the UK hasn’t been easy but I can definitely see things coming together (slowly). After a month of emails and calls I finally today received the official offer letter from the university. I also received my pre-settled status from EU Settlement Scheme (because of Brexit) so that I will be able to study in the UK and still travel back to Finland occasionally.

I have 19 days left in Finland until I will be travelling back to Newcastle to stay (it sounds crazy that I'm officially living in there, right!). I’m getting more and more excited when the days go by, but I also notice myself getting nervous: will I be alright? I find comfort and confidence with the help that’s waiting for me in there and after all the UK already feels like a home to me.

Long story short I’m thrilled about starting the new adventure soon and I will write about my experiences in there! I also hope I can help everyone who is wondering whether they should study, work or move abroad by sharing my experiences.

Speak to you soon!
